Bringing the known and hidden artworks of Stockport to life

John D Dronsfield

Celebration - John D Dronsfield

The Celebration by John D. Dronsfield was commissioned to commemorate the Vernon Building Society’s 75th Anniversary in July 1999.

John paints, writes and illustrates using watercolour, gouache and acrylic.

John says, “Watercolour allows me to float and be instant and ethereal; acrylic, I tend to use for larger works. Gouache and inks are colour weaponry...I use these to zing with and exploit the use of colour as a powerful agent, to excite, motivate and infiltrate the mind...to fill it with fun. It is emotional magic, a world full of wonderment. Each picture starts with a story or an idea, to communicate on a number of different levels to reach a wider audience, so it is chameleonic in nature.”

'I like the "montage" style and the vibrant colours. The inclusion of so many aspects of the Stockport and the detail make it very interesting to view.'

We will be announcing the dates and times for the workshops with artists to re-imagine the top eight very soon.
